Ways of Supporting the DCCU

DCCU is a community-based organisation. Members of the community who would like to show their support can do so in three ways:

  • tHROUGH DIRECT INVOLVEMENT AS VOLUNTEERS:

Some volunteers join rotas to help staff our offices

  • telling callers about the DCCU
  • signing people up as member
  • discussing finances with them and helping them fill in loan application forms.

Some volunteers help behind the scenes
  • with the accounts or marketing
  • as a member of the DCCU board or an advisory committee.
  • Some volunteers help by distributing leaflets or posters or by establishing contact with interested groups and individuals.
To find out more about volunteering, contact us.

tHROUGH FINANCIAL INVESTMENT:

  • by becoming founder members and investing £1,000
  • Founder members' money enabled the DCCU to start business and make loans without a long delay to build up capital.

  • Your investment is absolutely safe, protected by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme.

  • BUT the return on it is likely to be less than with, say, building society investments, as it depends on the ability of the Credit Union to pay a dividend.

  • Many existing founder members regard their investment as a means of helping the community.

To become a Founder Member, complete an application form (AB)
  • We cannot use savers' money to pay the costs of running the DCCU.
  • Running costs are low since there are few overheads and the DCCU is run by volunteers.
  • BUT we have to pay for insurance, FSA regulation, audit, publicity ...

In due course the DCCU should become financially self-sufficient but it needs support through the early growing years. We are grateful for help from Canterbury City Council and other donors - see Supporters and Partners

  • We are looking for commercial sponsors to help us in our work to lessen financial exclusion in our district.
